Tell you science teacher you picked the wrong project. High schoolers cannot do chrome plating, which involves as it does carcinogenic and notoriously toxic hexavalent chromium.

If you are just researching chrome electroplating and not wanting to actually do it, you can find good technical articles on decorative and functional chromium plating in the Metal Finishing Guidebook which is published by Metal Finishing Magazine.

If you want to actually do some electroplating, then forget chrome. Try zinc electroplating. Zinc plating experiment information can be found in the FAQ section of finishing.com.
