Tufftriding

We had been doing a tufftriding process on a part with a 1.25mm thread pitch. After the process the GO thread ring gauge is not able to enter. After the process it looks like some salt residue on the surface, but the polishing process is not able to clean the area with the threading. Does this tufftriding cause any increase in dimension and what would be the best method to clean off the thread area. Currently we have to clean it with wire brush and it is very time consuming.

Why not try to use chemicals to clean?

What kind of chemicals do you suggest?

The tufftriding process not only produces a hard layer but also gives some growth on the surface (typically in the range of say 10 to 12 microns). The growth is not something you can clean away so easily. The best thing to do is to compensate this extra grwoth by making the component undersize by the amount of growth. This can be established by doing some Design of Experiment to exactly find out the optimum factors.
Wire brush cleaning is not a good solution. It will definitely take lot of time....
Hope the above answer helps.
