Disposal methods of MSDS

I need to know the disposal methods for MSDS, its for a school report.

Belinda Tinney

You just mix the MSDS into your pile of junk mail and office paper, stir well, and send the whole mass out for recycling :-)

Actually, Belinda, MSDS stands for Material Safety Data Sheet. You may have misunderstood your assigned question a little bit: it's not the MSDS that you need a disposal method for; rather the MSDS for a given chemical will give you advice on how to safely and ecologically dispose of that chemical. Good luck.

Belinda,

MSDS is the designation for Material Safety Data Sheet. The MSDS document is supplied by manufacturers for all chemicals produced.

An MSDS is a material safety data sheet. You can trash it, burn it or shred it as it is only a printed piece of paper. Now, what did you really mean to ask?

Belinda,

MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) are informational sheets that are supplied with almost any kind of material that you can imagine, not only chemicals. Contained in the MSDS sheets is info on what hazardous things are in the material, what to do in case of spill, fire, or exposure, what protective equipment one should wear when handling the material, etc.. These sheets also tell you how one should dispose of the material after use (although most sheets refer to local regulations). So, without being to sarcastic, the way one disposes of MSDS's..is to tear them up, and throw them away, as all they are, are paper. But I really don't think you worded your question properly.

You could just use a round file or you may want to recycle and shred it for packing material. You probably should start by looking up the meaning of MSDS.

Disposing of an unwanted MSDS can involve long term legal implications. Do you know who made the ink? Do you have a MSDS for the ink? How was the paper made. Paper may contain hazardous materials; especially if it is colored. Before burying your unwanted MSDS in a landfill you should have it tested by a qualified lab. Be sure to have a hazardous material placard on your vehicle and a hazmat manifest. You can throw these away if the MSDS is determined to be non-hazardous. Nowe... How to dispose of the unwanted manifest form...
