Surface smoothness measurement

We use gold plated (hard gold)contacts for electrical testing of memory chips, etc. We need to have a relatively smooth finish on the gold < 63 micro inches. Does any one have a fairly decent method of measuring the finish of the gold short of spending thousands of $$ on a light refraction unit or an expensive surface tester. These contacts measure 1mm x .5mm x .004"-.010" thick.

Thanks to anyone who may be able to help.
