STRUCTURAL HARDWARE PROTECTIVE COATINGS

My Job: Project Engineer My company is into: Design Manufacturing, supply, erection, commissioning, refurbishment and servicing of Industrial fluid flow control devices and Acoustic products and Exhaust systems

Abstract of Question:

For Industrial structure and tower shell fasteners of considerably bigger sizes in the range of M32 to M64 and length ranging from 300 to 400 mm long, which is used to fasten the shells of exhaust stack shell sections of exhaust system, it is required to apply corrosion protective coatings. We need guidelines to select either Electro zinc plating or Hot dip galvanizing. I am interested in knowing the metallurgical impact on hardware by virtue of each of these process and looking at a long term perspective, which would be the ideal process to select.

I request the answer in the form of a comparative study and inference, as well as further reference to read. Thanking you in anticipation.

Sincerely,

JACOB THOMAS

Since both coatings are zinc, you probably want the thicker hot dip variety. What is the environmental exposure, coastal, industrial, rural? Are the fasteners exposed to the exhaust gases?
