Tensile strength

I am looking for the difference in "tensile strength" between Gold and Platinum?

Kevin Sholder
- Dayton, OH, Montgomery

Hi Kevin!

In the annealed, or dead soft state, platinum has a tensile strength of about 18,000 pounds per square inch. Gold is about 15,000 pounds per square inch. They can both be work hardened to about twice those numbers.

Have fun in your studies!

If looking for metals to use as a tension setting for a ring, I would suggest steel or titanium for their superior strength.
