LOOKING FOR GREY OR BLACK STAINLESS STEEL FINISH ala BILL GATES HOUSE

Hello, we are an architecture firm looking to make stainless steel connectors similar to those in Bill Gates' house (our client saw the photos and was hooked). They are a grey to black color, and used on the exterior and interior of the house. We'd like something more long-lasting than gun-blue stuff.

So: does anyone know of a product/or process that can accomplish this type of finish on SS? We prefer not use patination or paint.

Thank you very much,

Khyber Courchesne

Stainless steel can be anodized in colors through proprietary processes such as the Prismatic process available from B&M Finishers / Prismatic Stainless Steel [a finishing.com supporting advertiser].

Ed. note: Sorry, Alaberto, we were referring to a trade secret proprietary process for anodizing stainless steel in colors, including black. It is also possible to apply black oxide coatings to stainless steel.

SS can also be titanium PVD plated to achieved the smoke grey to black finish. PVD colored stainless is most often used for exterior applications.
