Nickel plating on stainless steel screws

Stainless steel screws, plated using electroless nickel going into titanium. Are there any inherent problems as I am experiencing flaking of the nickel plating? Is the plating even needed to prevent corrosion?

We can't say whether the electroless nickel is needed without knowing the exact application. Electroless nickel is more corrosion resistant than titanium in some applications, and it also is harder and lower coefficient of friction. Although I haven't worked with titanium bolts, my understanding is that titanium galls terribly, so you have to do something with it whether that be e-ni or something else.

If the bolts are in solution, together with basket, they are becoming anodes and so are dissolving.

You need to include your process steps. guess 1-- you are not properly activating the SS guess 2-- you are not using a strike before the EN guess 3-- there is too much time between the strike and the EN causing the strike to passivate--it only takes a minute. James Watts
