Polish/buffing aluminium

I have a motorcycle with a dull, rough aluminium finish and I would like to polish these parts. What is the best method of producing a high gloss and maintaining that finish?

I have the same problem with greyed out aluminum parts on my motorcycle. What solution did you find? What worked for you?
