List of FED-STD-595 color numbers

Does anyone know where I can find a list of the FED-STD-595 color numbers? I need to call out a particular color number on a fabrication drawing.

Hello Jason!

You'll need to get a copy of this document, complete with the little color chips, because it won't be available over the web, since different monitor settings could lead to confusion over the exact color. So, try the Document Automation and Production Service, Philadelphia, PA. If they can't/won't help you, I KNOW you can get this from Global Engineering Documents.

Good luck!

Ed. note, Aug 2007: Per a note from the Document Automation and Production Service, DAPS will supply a copy of FED-STD-595 only to DoD customers. All others should order directly from the US General Services Administration (GSA), as advised by Mr. Foster below. Reference: Defense Standardization Program (DSP) Policy Memo 06-3, "Changes in Ordering and Referencing FED-STD-595".

The US General Services Administration is the preparing activity and manager for Federal Color Standard 595, revision B. I am the manager of the standard. The index of color numbers, color chip index, is called the Fan Deck and can be ordered from Mary Crawford: Property Management Division (3FPD) Crawford, Mary (202) 619-8925 email orders: mary.crawford@gsa.gov

Here you go ----- accordance with MIL-DTL-14072 [on DLA], Type I (Exposed), Finish Number P513.1, Paint Film B. Finish P513.1 includes MIL-C-5541 passivation and primer per TT-P-1757 [on DLA] . Paint Film B is TT-E-527 paint with the color being lusterless black (FED-STD-595 color number 37038). Color 37038 is the international standard black per MAS Army 440, 7 December 1987, NATO STANAG 2321, Edition 4.

If you go to assist1.daps.dla.mil/quicksearch/ and click on the quick search engine, when it asks for document id, put in fed-std-595 and it will pull up all of the color number, and you can click on the pdf of any color you need...there is a next button at the bottom that will carry you thru the entire list....

Ed. note, Aug 2007: Per a note from the Document Automation and Production Service, the DoD ASSIST database does not contain PDF files of FED-STD-595, as there is currently no accurate way to replicate colors electronically, as there are variations caused by video cards, quality of monitors, individual monitor settings, etc. When searching any of the ASSIST databases (assist.daps.dla.mil) for FED-STD-595, users see a "file cabinet" icon. This means the document is a warehoused item, not available electronically, but only as a hard copy.

I found a good source for an on-line reference for the Fed Std 595 colors at www.fed-std-595.com. They also sell fan decks, specifications, and paint chips. If you look around their site, you'll find a page with the standard colors with RGB references.
