Surface treatment of Engine Parts (mainly Aluminium)

Dear Sir,

I am an Engineer of the Manufacturing Quality control department in a leading Automobile Company in India. At present one of the main problems, that we face is in having A GOOD FINISH OVER THE Engine parts mainly Aluminium Cast Parts. At present we are Buffing these parts at the final Stage. But very soon these parts get oxidized. Can you suggest some finishing processes that would improve the finish of these aluminium parts without affecting its performance at an affordable price and at the same time avoids oxidation.

Regards,

Bimaarc

Something doesn't sound right here. Apparently your aluminum parts are small enough that they can be worked off hand. Normally the abrasive and jeweler's rouge this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] has protective properties in them to prevent oxidation. Therefore, I think you may be leaving out a cleaning step. Also, you did not mention anything about volume. Normally most automotive parts are worked in wet mass finishing systems with a deburring compounds that have inhibitors. Either process provides a protective coating or delayed time period to clean and then clear coat parts.
