Real rust as corrosion protection for sculpture
I use mild sheet steel to make sculpture. 10 ,12,14,gauge. I'm going to use Loctite rust converter ⇦ this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] on an outdoor work. Can I expect a lasting finish?
Thanks,
Ken Engelhard- Pacifica, California
Ken you should more than likely contact the manufacturer of the Loctite material. They should give you a definitive answer.

Hi, Ken. I don't think the black rust will really hold up. Even black oxide applied hot and in a factory has no durability. Gun collectors are constantly cleaning and oiling their rifle barrels because they will quickly rust (red rust) otherwise. Planning on periodic clear coating would be a good idea I think.
