Pretreatment

I am a supervisor in the powder paint department. We build equipment which consist of heavy weldments (a combination of hot roll and cold roll steel). The only pretreatment for the parts to be powder painted is an automatic shotblaster. My question is this, concerning the media, with a shot profile of 2.0 to 3.0 mils, what are the pros and cons of steel shot and steel grit.

This is not a direct answer to your question; rather a generalization that may be of some help. The smaller the particle size, the finer the finish. The heavier the particle the deeper the surface profile. The lighter and smaller the particle the longer the time cycle for surface treatment.
