Rust Removal on Polished Brass

Q. How do I get rust off a polished brass baker's rack?

A. If there is rust on it, it's not brass, Hannah, it's plated. You would need to send it out to a plating shop for re-plating. But check it with a magnet first. If it's magnetic, it's definitely steel, not brass. Good luck.

Q. I have a solid brass part that has a corrosion-type stain. I believe the stain resulted from contact with iron for an extended period. Cleaners and solvents (lacquer thinner this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] Warning! highly flammable! ) seem to have no effect. Brass polish works well on the part except for the "corroded" area, which turned black.

Any suggestions?

Q. Have very old solid brass candle sticks. Using Maas metal polish this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] they shine up brilliantly....however there are a few dark stains (not rust on brass!) about pea size that will not be removed. Would appreciate helpful suggestion.
