Dear SIR:

Steel is etched by making it as a anode in a solution of acidified {ferric chloride this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] } and the cathode will be lead with external D.C current. If you wish the color of the print to be to be white so the background have to be black many kinds of finish will give you the black color like

1-black nickel
2-black chrome
3-oxidizing of steel with black oxide .....e .t.c

Thanks and best regards,
