Powder Coat Painting Specification

Q. To Whom this may concern:

I am looking for a powder coat painting specification for an exterior railing along a trail in Dubuque, Iowa. Can you help me out? The railing is decorative and will be fabricated especially for this project. The railing will be 42" in height and will have a decorative infill panel with uprights or horizontals at less than 3 1/2" oc.

Laura:

Did you ever find a powder coat paint spec.? I have exactly the same problem, developing a spec for an exterior hand railing system. I'm a landscape architect as well. I'd like to know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Has anyone been successful in getting that specification?

There are probably a number of possible starting points for this, but ASTM D3451-01 Standard Guide for Testing Coating Powders and Powder Coatings looks promising, and it incorporates by reference dozens of other standards. Another starting point may be powdercoating.org/architects.
