Patinas for metals

I'm trying to find out about patinas on metal. I saw a letter from Zuber Stewart (letter 2526) asking the same question and was told to order "The Coloring, Bronzing and Patination of Metals." That is an old book that cannot be ordered. Can anyone tell me how to patina metal (other than green, which I know how to do)? Or another book? Thanks.

Editor's Note: "The Colouring, Bronzing & Patination of Metals" [on eBay, Amazon, AbeBooks affil links] Richard Hughes, Michael Rowe / Hardcover / Published 1991 is available by following the link. It is a very popular book and may be available in a local library.

Check out this web site, try the main page at: www.metalfinishing.com and go to the metal finishing guidebook table of contents.

Ed. note, July '10: There was a very brief period when the Metal Finishing Guidebook was available on line, but these days you need to get a subscription to Metal Finishing magazine, or buy a used copy.
