Stripping or Removal of Platinum Plating

What is the best way to remove a platinum plating from gold jewelry?

Chris Carter
- Santa Monica, California

I think it is unlikely you will find a chemical means to remove the platinum. Platinum is widely used to coat anodes in plating baths, even platinum plating baths, because it will not dissolve. Your best bet is to carefully sand it off and then polish the gold. You could gold plate over any platinum remaining in recessed areas.
