Zinc-nickel can be plated out of proprietary acid or alkaline baths. The principal advantage compared to zinc is far greater corrosion resistance.

You can find good articles on zinc nickel and other finishing processes in the Metal Finishing Guidebook. The guidebook is available through Metal Finishing Magazine. You might want to talk to a local plater or chemical supplier that is in the zinc-nickel business.

The exact properties of the plating depend on what type of zinc-nickel you are talking about. There are alkaline and acid bath formulations that yield different properties. Also, the alloy % of nickel can change the properties of the plating.

Overall, zinc-nickel is a good plating. It is more expensive, but also more corrosion resistant than normal zinc plating. Zinc-nickel uses the same equipment and processing techniques of zinc plating, and can be done in racks or barrels.
