Passivation kits for stainless steel

I'm interested in finding a passivation product (preferably citric based and in paste form) to use for maintenance weld repairs of a sanitary (PW-100) Deionized Water system. We currently fabricate subcomponents and ship to passivation companies for a nitric passivation cycle. If we are passivating a large quantity we will mobilize a passivation contractor to our site for a citric based passivation. Our interest is in finding a "user friendly" product for emergency weld repairs which would provide the same end result as the aforementioned processes.

Bobby:

There are good citric acid based passivation gels available for this application from Stellar Solutions [a finishing.com supporting advertiser].

The citric products produce excellent passivation of welds compared to nitric. However, they will NOT remove all of the weld discoloration like a nitric/HF paste will. They do, however give you a safe, easy way to get good, passive welds. If you need aesthetic beauty, you need to brush the weld first with a good stainless steel wire brush, treat it with an electric wand or blast it with a good glass bead system. Let us know how we can help.
