Plating and finishing kovar
I am packaging an electronics module using kovar. The package will be hermetically sealed. Some of the connectors are to be laser welded to the package while others are to be soldered/brazed. What type of plating will be required such that the soldered/brazed connectors can be assembled properly. Will kovar require any special finish to prevent corrosion?

Depending upon the conditions to which the part will be exposed, you might need as much as 4 - 6 tenths of Watts nickel, 3 or 4 tenths of a mil of cadmium, then Olive drab chromate.
0.0003 inches of Watts or sulfamate Nickel should be the underlayment for the solder.
