Electropolishing of Pure Nickel

Q. I have a sample of Nickel 200 that I want to electropolish. What is the best electrolyte, current, voltage, time, etc. to polish a specimen area of 1.0-0.2 cm^2.

Q. I want to electropolish pure nickel substrate. We have a small electropolishing unit, and I was wondering what would be the proper electrolyte to use and the voltage of the DC current. My sample size ranges from a thickness of 2 mm to 0.1 mm and width of 2 mm.

A. Hi. If you are unable to find suggestions for electropolishing of pure nickel, I would expect that the electrolytes, current, voltage, time, etc. would be similar to those used for stainless steels. Many different generic and proprietary formulations have been used, and you can get a good tabulation from the Electrolytic Polishing chapter of the Electroplating Engineering Handbook.

Good luck.

Q. I'm from Indonesia, a plastic injection mfg. industry.

I have done nickel electroforming process for making a pyramidal reflective plastic mold; but for the further process of ELECTROPOLISHING I could not find the chemical for it.

Can anyone tell me the chemical supplier and the technical assistance for doing the electropolishing?

Best Regards,

Willy Sasmita

Q. I am looking for the same question. I have tried many things but none of them have been suitable yet. I will post the answer as soon as I get some success.
