Treating waste from copper pyrophosphate plating

Q. How to do waste water treatment properly on rinsing water and spent from copper pyrophosphate plating? Any idea on its cost implication?

A. I worked in a plant which treated pyrophosphate copper rinsewater through a chelate-breaking system using ferric chloride this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] . The resulting precipitate was passed through a separate clarifier to avoid mixing the supernate with the rest of the rinsewater from the general plating operation. It worked splendidly, but I don't know if it was necessary.

A. Try carbon plus ion exchange. First a carbon column (organic removal), then cation (copper and other metals removed here), then anion (pyro, etc. come out here). You will be able to reuse your rinsewater forever. There are at least three companies in the US that will regenerate IX columns for you if you don't want to set up regeneration in house.
