Zinc plating the inside of a fuel tank

A friend of mine needs the chemical ingredients to ZINC plate to steel. For some reason he wishes to Zinc plate the inside of a motorcycle gas tank. He has a very good understanding of electroplating. He just needs to know what chemicals to buy and the proportions. Also any thoughts on why not to expose gasoline to Zinc?

Any and all advice would be most helpful.

Thank You.

Sorry, Richard, I don't know for sure if zinc plating is compatible with gasoline for the inside of a tank or not (although I don't see any reason why not). I hope that a reader can comment.

I do feel that it is a better idea to buy a proprietary zinc plating system than to try to formulate your own. However, some formulas are available in the Electroplating Engineering Handbook [on AbeBooks or eBay or Amazon affil links] and the Metal Finishing Guidebook. Information about these and other finishing books is on-line here. Good luck with the project.
