Electroless plating onto gold seed particles

May 27, 2011

I've been able to learn a lot from this forum, but I have a couple questions remaining.

In electroless plating onto non-conductive parts, it seems to be common to seed the part with palladium nanoparticles to provide initial nucleation sites for the autocatalytic deposition. Would any metal nanoparticle work just as well, or are certain seed particles specific to certain process chemistries?
Specifically, are there any electroless plating chemistries that work well with gold nanoparticle seed treatment? I presume that electroless gold would work, but are there any others?
