Unfortunately, you have not provided sufficient information for a definitive answer. What is the automotive item? However, in response, your client should provide a spec of procedures he requires you to follow, otherwise if problems occur then a mutual agreement to who or what is at fault can not be agreed by either party
Most automotive components can be classed as under-body parts. The pre-treatment can vary from just a thorough clean to iron or zirconium phosphate requirements. The type of powder can also vary--semi matt black polyester to matt epoxy for cam covers (best for post-linishing). I think you need to talk to your client and get them to advise you what they expect from the powder finish.

Aluminium Diecastings are notoriously difficult to prescribe appropriate Surface treatments for. This is largely due to the incredible variations in the base metal. Many Al Diecastings are contaminated with a huge variety of other metals and impurities.
Can you specify the Alloy and purity of the Castings you wish to protect? Can you specify the service conditions they are likely to endure? Can you specify the lifespan expected under those conditions please.
If you can specify these criteria, we may be able to assist.
Regards,
