Tooling for applying #4 finish
We have a Timesaver and regularly apply a grained finish to our products in the flat, but for parts that are already formed or need touch-up due to weld marks, fold marks, or mis-handling we have a difficult time matching and blending. We'll use a 150 or 180 grit belt to create a #4 finish, but what kinds of hand-tool wheels/belts do you recommend for touch-up? We do use scotchbrite belts and rolocs for blending of course, but I know there just has to be a product line specifically for graining the finish to match mill #4 grain.
I'm hoping for specific product numbers like certain 3M parts, etc..
For instance, if you were given a 12" x 18" x 6" Square D electrical box with a 2B finish, what techniques/tools/abrasives would you use to apply a presentable, consistent #4 finish to all surfaces?
I know skill is an element, and we have lots of different abrasives in house, but I just have a feeling we're missing something specific..
Thanks!
PS does anyone know what process is used at the mill? Belts or brushes? Wet or Dry?
