Gold plating adder charge?

November 23, 2009

Hello,

I am about to expand my services to offer gold plating. The problem though now is coming up with a "adder" for the gold charges. Is there a formula that can help me with this. Or can anyone explain how gold platers charge using adders and/or "factors"?
Thanks,

Doug Nitzer

Hi, Doug. This might be better discussed with your tablemates at an AESF or NAMF meeting than where your offshore competitors will use the discussion as ammunition to undercut you :-)

But the first step is to determine with an amp-minute meter how much gold you are applying, then multiply that by the cost of that much gold in the form you buy it (as a replenishment salt or whatever). That will give you your material cost. As a plating shop, you already have a good feel for your labor costs.
