How will zinc coated steel bolts age? will they change color?
I am an architect and we have bright zinc coated steel bolts on an interior wood truss. The project is in Dallas Texas and will always remain in a conditioned environment.
Will the shine wear off? What color will these bolts turn over time? They will not be touched, but may have been touched during intallation.
We're considering leaving them or painting them if they will discolor.
Thanks

Dear Mr Stein,
Zinc is Zinc and will eventually fade to a dull grey colour eventually before disappearing altogether.
If you are looking for a lifetime application it would be advisable to paint them after zinc plating.
The duplex coating will protect each other.
