Corrosion due to Chloride
September 4, 2009
I am working in a steel industry and we are facing a corrosion problem in corrugated hoses (SS 304/316), probably because of chloride.
Actually these hoses are used for circulating gases
(CO-19%,CH4-17%,H2-40%,CO2-18%,N2-7% Dry analysis) with a temperature of 525 °C. This gas also carries 16-17% moisture. The water which is used to clean and cool this gas in the down stream contains Chloride - 450 ppm , total hardness - 250 ppm ,TDS - 1500 ppm pH -
8.
Could you please guide us that the corrosion which is taking place in these hoses are because of chloride concentration or some thing else.
Regards,
