Plating to make stainless steel black

Is it possible to do black plating on 304 and 316 SS , and why it is needed?...

Hi, Ankur. Yes, it's possible to plate stainless steel with black chrome or other black finishes. But why is it necessary is not something we can answer! Maybe for solar heating application, maybe to limit reflections, maybe to match some black paint, maybe so half the chess pieces or checkerboard spaces are a different color. But we may not even be close to why your customer wants the parts to be black. Good luck.
