E-coat on galvanized steel and non galvanized at the same time

March 18, 2009

Hi guys
Would you mind to suggest something to improve the result of my process while I'm painting a weld assembly that involves 2 conditions on its components some of them galvanized and some others non galvanized. The results now are showing that non galvanized components present kind of leaks after the e-coat. Bad appearance.
Do you think this is happening just because of the galvanized conditions? or process parameters should be fixed? Thank you.

Miguel,

What do you mean by "leaks"? Are these pinholes or other paint problems?

The problem may not be due to the difference in the metals but in the pretreatment. I assume that the galvanized parts undergo a typical process that might remove contaminants whereas the other parts don't have such treatment. This could lead to the difference and problem.

Can you provide more details about how the different parts are treated before E-coat and what you mean by "leaks"?

Hi Christian, there are no leaks but Draining conditions on the parts. Any way let me check right now if both components has a different pre-threatment before assembled and introduced to paint line. Thank you.
