Remove gilding from rare silver coin

February 11, 2009

Can someone please tell me how to remove the gilding from a silver half crown? The gilding has made the coin worthless to any collector who would pay £160.00 without it!
I inherited this coin from my grandfather as part of a large collection and I now wish to sell it rather than throw it away.
There may be many collectors who would be interested in the answer to this problem, probably meaning a visit to a plating shop.
