Black chrome over nickel?
2007
Hello,
I have a decorated tube that I believe is entirely made of nickel. I am not sure, though. The metal is bright, shiny with a yellow hint. I want to turn this item into a handle to a sword, and I would prefer a hematite-like look to it. So I considered black nickel (I understand it is not a good choice because it tarnishes quickly) or black chrome. Can black chrome be applied to nickel? I just wonder if black chrome has the same chemical properties as regular, silvery chrome, or is it a different animal altogether?
Thank you!

Yes, black chrome has essentially the same properties as shiny chrome and would be suitable and generally can be applied to nickel.
Of course, when you don't know what something is, there are no guarantees of anything! But a plating shop may be able to identify the metal.
