What is burnished stainless steel and how to specify it?
Q. A customer is requesting burnished stainless steel. What is burnished stainless steel and how is it specified?

A. Burnishing is basically a lapping or rolling process. There are no abrasives involved. To accomplish burnishing using mass finishing systems you need either steel media or porcelain. The best way to specify any surface finish is to specify an RMS, Ra, or Rz reading.

Q. I am looking for corner guards and the finish is a burnished steel. Can I order this already finished or is this something I have to do myself?

A. Hi Douglas. Although you know what you mean by corner guards, no one else does, so we're unlikely to be able to predict whether they are catalog items or not. Is this a corner guard on a plaster wall, or on a shopping cart, or a car door or an outdoor fence? But there are job shops who will do the burnishing for you. Good luck.
