Nonconductive coating for electroforming

2007

Hello,
I need an advice for my electrodeposition project at university. I have a rectangular titanium cathode on which iron is deposited using a ferrous chloride electrolyte (at 90°C, pH=1) and an Armco Fe anode. The deposit should be formed only of one of the Ti cathode surfaces; therefore, the other surfaces should be isolated. I have been using metallography resins for covering the Ti surfaces but because of the corrosive electrolyte used at high temperature they do not work very well. Could you please recommend any kind of paint or coating which is used for isolating Ti surfaces from the electrolyte(resistant to high temperature and acidic pH) ?

Thank you,

Maryam Moravej

The type of paint or coating used for isolating surfaces from electrolytes with high temperature and high or low pH is referred to as a maskant or stop off lacquer.
