Welding a faucet without harming the brushed nickel finish

Help
I recently bought wall mounted faucet s they are made of brass with a brushed nickel finish
The spout is 10 inch's long and the depth of the sink is 18 inch's. I spoke to the people who make the spout can not and will not make a shorter one
How ever I spoke to some one and he says he you could cut the spout and re weld it but he is not sure if it will damage the finish. If it does damage the finish how do I repair the brushed nickel
The body for the faucet is in the wall and the tiling and painting is complete.

Hi, Damian. You are probably referring to brazing rather than welding, but either way it will certainly ruin the finish in the immediate vicinity. With skill and luck and patience maybe the damaged area will be short enough that you could conceal it behind some kind of decorative band around the brazing line.
