Sealing silver candlesticks

I have tried many products that claim they prevent tarnish but I'm not impressed. Is there something I can coat my silver candlesticks with so they won't tarnish? (I have silver jewelry that is sealed and years later I still don't have to polish it.)

Hi, Kathi. If you have tried many products which are designed to prevent tarnish, and which claim to prevent tarnish, and none of them work to your satisfaction under your circumstance, it's very unlikely that the next one someone names will :-(

But if you name the brands that you have tried, I'll try to name one or two that you haven't tried. At the manufacturing point there are a few things that can be done: offering a different grade of silver, and eight different approaches to corrosion inhibition. Letter 29959 lists a published article on the subject if you wish to research it.

But I think the short answer is that the articles that are sealed away are protected from the atmosphere and, in addition, the packaging may have volatile corrosion inhibitors in it. I suggest you look into improving the packaging rather than some kind of clear coating by googling a term like "corrosion inhibitor packaging silver". Good luck.
