Chrome Plating Inspection Project - but no books available

Hy
My name is Sadeq Morshedloo,
I am a student in Petroleum University of Technology, and my course of study is Inspection Engineering.
My project is about chromium electroplating, actually it is about optimum conditions for chromium electroplating.
But unfortunately our university data base doesn't have very much about it and on the net I could find only some general information about chromium plating.
I would appreciate you if help me find a little more detailed information on this subject.

Your sincerely,

Sadeq Morshedloo

Hello, Sadeq.

Typical operating conditions are chromic acid content of 28 to 40 ounces per gallon, sulfuric acid at 1 part per hundred parts of chromic acid, operating temperature about 110 for decorative to 130 °F for hard chrome. But the optimum conditions will vary with other aspects of the situation. Our FAQ on chrome plating may be a little bit of help in understanding what chrome plating is about.

Good luck with your project, but you can't submit an internet response from a public forum as a university level project and I don't know if we can realistically help you on a university level project on a subject about which you have access to no literature. There are great books about the topic, like Guffie's Handbook of Hard Chromium Platingand Weiner & Walmsley's "Chromium Plating", but surely, somehow, someone can lay hands on an old copy of the Metal Finishing Guidebook? The guidebook has chapters on both decorative and hard chrome plating.

Please look at our books page and try to somehow gain access to one of the books on chrome plating or at least a general plating book (virtually all of them will include a chapter on chrome plating); if that it still impossible, and you absolutely cannot get access to any hard copy, I think you should change your project to something where the info is more accessible. Best of luck!
