HCl Muratic Acid
2007
I need HCI Muriatic Acid for the refining of Gold. It needs to be 31.45% technical grade. I found it at a ACE hardware store with same % but it does not say technical strength. Is this the right stuff or does it need to say "technical strength".

31.45 wt% is the minimum concentration of Technical Grade HCl per Federal Specification O-H-765E. Probably all HCl produced in the US meets or exceeds Technical grade (the cheap stuff) specifications, so you're OK. Purer grades (Reagent, Electronic, Spectroscopic) available from chemical & lab supply companies are about the same acidity (32-36 wt%) but have lower impurity levels and cost more.

Rest in peace, Ken. Thank you for your hard work which the finishing world, and we at finishing.com, continue to benefit from.
