Clear Chromate vs. Yellow Chromate

2006

Is there a chemical difference between Yellow Chromate and Clear Chromate?
What causes Yellow Chromate to out perform over Clear Chromate in environmental protection?
Is Clear Chromate more conductive than Yellow Chromate, if so Why?

Chromate conversion coatings are specific witches brew for each color. The basic difference is the darker the coating, the thicker it is. Like olive drab will significantly outperform yellow. The thicker coating makes it less conductive thru the coating. Note that it has nothing to do with the aluminum conductivity if you attach to bare aluminum or use star washers and etc.
