Removal of VOC from FRP Tank

We are going to install a new FRP water tank and we are afraid that some VOC will emitted to our water that increase the TOC level in the DI water. Does anyone know a method of removing VOC for new FRP tank.

Hi Frankie,

You raise a good point .... at least I think so !

I'm not partial to a fibreglass tank being used for drinking water UNLESS it is somehow post cured to drive off any residual solvents (i.e., VOCs) ... which is why the vast majority of plastic 'water' tanks are made from Polyethylene, a homogenous structure unlike heterogeneous fibreglass.

I'd imagine that the post curing would involve it being heated up in an oven to a certain (low !) temperature for a period of time .... go thou and check with those people selling the frp resins and catalysts for their recommendations.

Dear Frankie and Freeman,

In response to Frankie's question, the best possible solution is to install a Hot Pressed FRP Panel Tank made from SMC by a properly certified manufacturer.

The manufacturing process employs high heat and compression that completely cures the tanks panels and are ideal for potable water storage.
