Anodizing vs Alocrom
I have a print from Japan calling out the use of Alocrom coating and I would like to know what is a process in the States that I could sub for the Alocrom. Is this a material used in the US and how does compare to anodizing.
Thanks,

The US product is Alodine, from Henkel. This should be an identical product (Alocrom usually refers to either Alocrom 1000 or Alocrom 1200), the only difference being the name.
As for the difference between Alocrom and anodising, you need to be a little more specific with your question. Are we referring to Chromic, Phosphoric, sulfuric acid etc anodising? And which properties do you want to compare (thickness, paint adhesion, corrosion resistance etc)?
In general, Alocrom is inferior to all forms of anodising. Yet, there are properties that are possessed by Alocrom that anodising cannot match (such as no change in fatigue performance, lack of dimensional growth, non-anodic process).
