Dichromate, Diecast 380 Aluminum? What is it really, RoHS compliant?
I have quotes from an oversees vendor and he states that my 380 aluminum parts will be "Dichromated" for finish to protect until I powder coat. What is this Dichromate coating and is it RoHS compliant? Also, is this acceptable to powder coat over?

Dichromate coatings can be a good base for powder coating. Dichromate means Cr2O7--, so the chromium is hexavalent and inherently non-compliant. But it is also true that we call compliant trivalent coatings 'chromate', which actually means CrO4-- and thus implies hexavalent. --
