Cleaning/Shining Boat Brass and Bronze

2005

I own a 1966 Grand Bank trawler. The outside hand rail stantions are made of brass. Over the years they have turned a dark color. Seemingly they are next to impossible for me to clean and shine. Is there a chemical that will stip the tranish off? I heard the muric acid with do the trick but have not atempted this.

Can anyone empathize and help?

Thanks,

If they won't respond to polishing with Brasso this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] or similar, then it is because they have a clear coating, and have tarnished under the coating. Remove the clear coat with paint stripper, polish, and recoat with clear.
