Small shop nikasil and teflon coating help

2004

Hello,

I want to experiment with the nikasil process on my motorcycle engines as in the trench compactors engines (I am an engine mechanic) I have some experience in electroplating the engine cases for the atv , the teflon coating is the other interest area for my job any help will be appreciate.

Thanks

First of two simultaneous responses --

Nikasil is a proprietary product, so there is not much information available on it. You might want to do a patent check to see if the patent has expired. When you say teflon, that is like saying kleenex. There are several different DuPont teflons and several somewhat similar coatings from others. Go to the source for correct information.

Second of two simultaneous responses --

Nikasil is a trade mark, therefore it is protected. It belongs to a rather new field of high tech plating processes. Far more complicated than electroplating motor cases. If you are serious about it you will need production volumes in the order of thousands of parts to justify the required investment. If you are only curious, you can use your search engine and look for "composite electroless coatings".
