Fine Polishing of Stellite 6B
Hi!
I am Anil Kumar, A Graduate Student in University of Utah.
We are currently working on Boronizing of Stellite 6B(Co-Cr Alloy). As we do Hand-Polishing of the Borided Stellite specimen with Alumina powder(1,0.3 & 0.05 Micron),We always have some scratches on the s/c.
Can you please suggest some suitable suspensions for the Hard Materials so that superior surface finish can be obtained?
Thanking you for your earliest attention!

If the scratches aren't there before the polishing, it sounds more like a cleaning issue. Make sure *all* of the coarser grit is removed before starting a finer grit. Also check that the grits are not contaminated. Additionally, that seems a rather large range of grits for only three steps. You may get better results by adding a step with 0.12 micron grit.

Dear Anil Kumar
You may try using various diamond pastes from a tools/hardware shop, generally used for resharpening of diamond/borozon tools.

From the responses you have received, it appears that conventional mechanical polishing has been pretty well worked over. You may wish to talk to someone in the lapping end of the business. I've seen them produce mirror finishes on everything from aluminum to cobalt base hardfacing alloy.
My recommendation is for you to consider electroplishing and eliminate all forms of abrasive.
