Differentiating nickel and chromium plating by simple observation

Q. I am a layman in electroplating field. Could someone tell me about the method or test by which we can differentiate between nickel plating and chromium plating. Can we do it by simple observation?

Which type of plating (nickel or chromium) gives best decorative, bright and high quality mirror finish.

A. If you can distinguish colors pretty well you can see chrome is whiter and nickel is yellower compared to steel. About better aspect and shine a thin flash of chrome over bright nickel is normally considered the best.

A. Well, It's easy to know the two cylinders .The nickel cylinder are white and brighter, nickel is used to adhere the copper coatings to the steel cylinders, on the other hand it's softer than chrome. wWhile the chrome cylinders are a little darker and harder their required hardness is about 780--800 hv. So if you have other questions, don't hesitate to let me know.

A. A layman's answer to a question form a layman would be that the nickel would look Peela (yellow in Urdu) and the Chrome would be Neela (blue in Urdu again).
