Coating to Prevent Plating

2004

Dear People,

I need to flash chrome-plate the inner surface of a 4130 tube and I need the protect the outer surface from plating.

What must I use to protect the outer surface from plating? Enamel, varnish? Anything I can use that can be removed easily e.g peeling the protective paint/varnish off?

Thank you.

Well, that depends! what is the length and the diameter of the "tube"? What is your definition of "flash"? How many parts/per day? Tank anodes or conforming anodes? How picky about a trace of bleed on the ends of the tube? All things said and done, a mechanical mask will probably be the choice if it does not have any serious bends.
