Teflon coatings as release agent for Bitumen Moulds
2004
I am working on the moulding of powder filled Bitumen into blocks. The bitumen is then sold to customers who melt them locally to use in the forming of floors or roofs. The bitumen/Asphalt is poured into the moulds at 180-200'C and then allowed to cool naturally.
Currently mould release sprays are being used but they leave the bitumen surface sticky.
Is it possible to use a Teflon type coating on the moulds to aid release? Does anyone have experience of this?

As I'm a Teflon coater in Spain (FISA Recubrimientos), I can suggest you a fast metod to know if it will work or not.
You can make a test with a standard frying pan (teflon coated) and check if your bitumen sticks onto the surface. If it does not stick, then you can contact a Teflon coater to coat your moulds.
Best regards from Barcelona.
